Books Build Community

Over the past 12 months, the Literary Freedom Project has increased its commitment to creating spaces that help connect you to the power of books, culture, and education.

Our programs value the variety of histories and cultures found in the Bronx and give residents places to build community and explore social engagement.

One Book One Bronx continues to grow an amazing group of book lovers in NYC. We distributed 260 free books to book club members. Over 500 people participated in our weekly programs around the Boogie Down Bronx. One Book One Bronx also hosted book signings with writers Willie Perdomo, Natasha Tarpley, Olive Senior, and Nicole Dennis-Benn.

>>Your donation will help us pay book club facilitators, purchase books, expand the book club to three locations, and present public events.

In November, we presented the thirteenth Mosaic Literary Conference, an annual platform for literature-based creative thinking and knowledge sharing. This year,  we asked how would James Baldwin confront the ongoing environmental crisis that has disproportionately impacted the health and resiliency of Black lives?

>>Your support will help keep conference admission free, provide honoraria to participants, develop lesson plans, and provide lunch to all attendees.

And we continue to document compelling voices and translate the content of Mosaic Literary Magazine with the goal of building a global conversation.

>>Donations will help produce an annual print compilation and fund translations.

Please take a moment to support what you love, and help us connect to even more people in 2020. Your tax-deductible donation will sustain our movement to restore the beauty of books, culture, and education.
