March 5, 2017, Bronx, NY – This fall, the Literary Freedom Project will present the 11th annual Mosaic Literary Conference at The Bronx Museum of the Arts. The conference will explore the spiraling currency of black lives and the complex identity narratives related to race, gender, sexual identity in literature and media. The conference will be complemented by tandem photography exhibits Jamel Shabazz: Black Documents and Black Documents: Freedom. Together the conference and exhibitions will counter negative stereotypes and examine how literature can be used as a counterbalance to reaffirm positive identity and truthfulness. The conference seeks to provide a place to explore “unforgivable blackness” and how recent social movements, such as BlackLivesMatter, can be used as a learning experience to connect and strengthen communities… (Click here to download full press release)
